Dream Theater – Beyond This Life

|

My personal favorite from the album “Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory”. Scene Four: Beyond This Life We learn the newspaper account of what happened in 1928. The story is that an anonymous witness heard a horrifying sound and upon reaching the scene of the sound discovered a woman who’d been shot dead, and the shooter standing over her. The witness tried to help, but the man shot himself next. The newspaper account talks of a sad close to a broken love affair. This indicates that the victim and the murderer are identified as previous or maybe even current lovers. The paper goes on to explain that Victoria and her lover had recently broken up due to his decadent lifestyle; it’s later suggested that gambling and/or drug addiction might be of significance. Julian later drops a liquor bottle in scene 9, so it’s possible his habit was drinking. It’s also indicated that Victoria would have taken him back if he’d straighten up his lifestyle. The article speculates that the murder may have been premeditated. Next we read an account of the physical evidence at the scene. There is evidence of a ‘violent struggle’ and a switchblade is found. The switchblade causes some confusion, because the victim is a young girl and typically you wouldn’t expect a young girl in 1928 to be carrying a switchblade, unless she was anticipating a need to defend herself. Also found, in the killer’s pocket, is a written note. It clearly reads that Victoria’s lover would rather take his own life

This was the first time they played a song not yet released, we were really lucky 😉 I Lordi che suonano “This is Heavy Metal” a Torino (26/6/10), una nuova canzone tratta dall’album che uscirà prossimamente intitolato “Babez From Breakfast”. E’ stata la prima volta che la band ha suonato una canzone che ancora doveva essere rilasciata, possiamo ritenerci molto fortunati ad averla vista 😉

Whitesnake – Is This Love

|

1987) The music video featured David Coverdale’s future wife Tawny Kitaen, who had appeared in the band’s earlier video for “Here I Go Again”. __________________________________ After recording two solo albums, former Deep Purple vocalist David Coverdale formed Whitesnake around 1977. In the glut of hard rock and heavy metal bands of the late ’70s, their first albums got somewhat lost in the shuffle, although they were fairly popular in Europe and Japan. During 1982, Coverdale took some time off, so he could take care of his sick daughter. When he re-emerged with a new version of Whitesnake in 1984, the band sounded revitalized and energetic. Slide It In may have relied on Led Zeppelin’s and Deep Purple’s old tricks, but the band had a knack for writing hooks; the record became their first platinum album. Three years later, Whitesnake released an eponymous album (titled 1987 in Europe) that was even better. Portions of the album were blatantly derivative — “Still of the Night” was a dead ringer for early Zeppelin — but the group could write powerful, heavy rockers like “Here I Go Again” that were driven as much by melody as riffs, as well as hit power ballads like “Is This Love.” Whitesnake was an enormous international success, selling over six million copies in the US alone. Before they recorded their follow-up, 1989’s Slip of the Tongue, Coverdale again assembled a completely new version of the band, featuring guitar virtuoso Steve Vai. Although the record went
