Rock Star (film): Audition for Steel Dragon

The film also stars Jennifer Aniston. It was shot almost entirely in and around Los Angeles, but part of the film takes place in Pittsburgh. The movie depicts, approximately, the life of an ’80s heavy metal band, with the highs and lows of fame, drugs, rock and roll, and groupies. The band depicted in the movie, Steel Dragon, is fictional. The film was inspired by the real-life story of Tim ‘Ripper’ Owens, singer in a Judas Priest tribute band who was chosen to replace singer Rob Halford when he left the band. The original title of the movie was to be Metal God, similar to signature Judas Priest song “Metal Gods”.

Manowar – Heart of Steel

Manowar is an American heavy metal band from Auburn, New York, formed in 1980. They are known for writing lyrics with an emphasis on the heavy metal genre itself, fantasy (particularly sword and sorcery) and mythological topics (particularly Norse mythology). Manowar’s sound is loud and bombastic; in an interview for MTV in February 2007, bassist Joey DeMaio lamented that “these days, there’s a real lack of big, epic metal that is drenched with crushing guitars and choirs and orchestras… so it’s nice to be one of the few bands that’s actually doing that.” In 1984 the band was included in the Guinness Book of World Records for delivering the loudest performance, a record which they have since broken on 2 occasions.
