Written by lead singer Axl Rose about his then girlfriend Erin Everly (daughter of Everly Brother, Don), ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ sounded like nothing else on the radio when it charted in the late summer of 1988. With Slash’s piercing guitar work and Axl’s gritty vocals to propel it, this hard rocking ballad deservedly hit #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 several months after it debuted. In the coming years, GNR would release several more classic songs-‘Paradise City,’ ‘You Could Be Mine,’ and ‘November Rain,’ to name a few. However, none would be as successful as their first. And it stills sounds as good today as it did back then.
