Stibnite, Composition
My favorite of all crystals, this is stibnite. It is a great specimen offered by a dealer in the TEP venue of the Tucson Rock and Gem Show this year. The entire piece is about 2 1/2" x 2". The blade formations stacked upon each other make for a natural composition in this macro view. The crystal is so dark, the "steel blue" shows as black and gray with flashes of blue as light hits it. This shot was taken in a tent outdoors, so the bit of light coming in sideways from 8 feet away helped to show the gleam and shine. Wish I’d had the funds to pick up this beauty!
